Memorial Weekend

We had a great three-day weekend bbqing and hanging out at the beach with family and friends. Luckily the sun came out despite all the "May gray," and Owen got to sport his new, bright neon-green boardshorts. I can't believe day-glo is back in style, although it does look cute on a 2-year old. But then again pretty much everything looks cute in that size. Anyway, I am so excited that summer is here again and this year I get to enjoy it without being pregnant!

"Take a picture, mom"

The story behind this cute photo is this: Owen has long since passed the stage where he will happily pose for pictures. So if I really want him to smile, let alone sit still for a photo, I usually have to resort to ... you guessed it ... bribery, most often in the form of a sucker. So the other day we were playing in his room when Owen climbed up onto his bed and asked to hold Colton. Then he said "Take a picture, mom." So of course I raced into the other room to grab the camera before the moment passed. The whole time I am thinking, "Wow, Owen must really love his brother so much if he is asking me to take a picture. That is sooo cute. They are going to be best friends." I ran back in his room and snapped the pic below. The flash had barely gone off when Owen jumped back down and said, "Mom, can I have a sucker now?" Oh. I get it. Well, at least I got a cute picture!

Colton - 6 months

Colton turned 6 months on May 4, which was a few weeks ago but I hadn't started our blog yet so I am posting this a little late. I absolutely can't believe how fast the time is going. He is already halfway to one - wow. Of course mothers are biased but everyone tells me he is the best baby they have ever seen. He is just so mellow and goes with the flow of everything. When he gets tired or hungry he will fuss a little but rarely ever cries hard. It is very cute to see how he already looks up to Owen. He stares at him all the time and cracks up at all the silly things Owen does. They get along so well now - I just hope it continues.

Anyway, I have posted a few photos below of Colton's first bites of real food. It was pretty messy that first time but he is getting much better now. He isn't too crazy about the rice cereal but seems to love carrots the best so far. As for other milestones, he is officially sitting now and babbles all the time. Mostly "dada" so we are trying to work on the "mama." ;-) It is such a cute age right now, I'm just trying to enjoy it before he starts crawling and things get really crazy around here!

"We are raising men, not metrosexuals"

For those of you that know Josh well, I thought this was a really funny title to our first real blog post. We were watching TV last night and this commercial came on for a hammer that is basically a gun that automatically shoots the nail in. Josh said, "I would never buy that, it takes the fun out of everything." I said "So that's where Owen gets it" (he bangs his toy hammer on EVERYTHING). And Josh's response was "Amy, we are raising men, not metrosexuals -- of course they want to use a real hammer." And that about sums up my life right now. ;-)

Our New Blog

Well, I have been toying with the idea of starting our own family blog for some time now. I have had fun following several friends' blogs, but have been hesitant to start our own mostly due to lack of time. I finally decided to just bite the bullet, and if I don't end up posting very often, then oh well, at least I gave it a shot (some may remember our long forgotten Web page). Just as a disclaimer up front, this blog won't be super witty, enlightening or funny, but mostly intended as a way for me (us) to remember all the little moments of our day-to-day life. I take so many pictures of the big events, birthdays, trips, etc., but I feel like there are so many little milestones that take place on a daily basis that are the ones that are truly meaningful, but are the ones I am most likely to forget one day. Anyway, hopefully this blog will be a way to capture a slice of our fun, busy, sometimes tiring, but mostly happy and blessed life that is currently made up of Josh, I and our two beautiful boys -- Owen and Colton. Enjoy!
