On Friday night we tried a new summer outing for the first time: Movies on the Beach at the Dunes. They show a kid-friendly movie every weekend during the summer, so we decided to give it a shot because the movie was Wall-E, one of Owen's favorites. We picked up pizza on our way, and met J.R., Stacey and the girls down on the beach at about 6. Turned out we were one of the first there, so we were able to grab a prime viewing location AND one of the few fire pits. Since we arrived plenty early, the kids had lots of time to play in the sand and even found a tree to climb (which might have been the highlight of the night for Owen.) We got a fire started and got comfy, and it almost felt like we were camping. Well, after eating and playing for quite some time, the movie FINALLY started at about 8 pm, much later than we anticipated! The kids were really good for the whole thing, and Colton finally fell asleep in my arms, but when it finally ended at almost 10 p.m., they started to melt down. It turned out to be a really fun night (even though I've seen the movie about 20 times, somehow it's better outside under the stars), despite the lateness. Another good thing that came out of it is that I didn't realize how fun the Dunes would be for the kids during the day. We'll definitely be back for a little fun in the sun next time!
