Where the Wild Things Are

I wanted to do one last big outing to one of the theme parks before school started, so Josh and I took the boys to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Basically like the zoo only most of the animals aren't caged and get to roam free in a more natural environment. Our first stop was to the petting zoo area.

Pretty much the only thing in the petting zoo are deer, but this is still pretty cool because when do you ever get to be this close to a deer?

As you can tell this is Colton trying to give the deer a kiss!! He is definitely our animal lover of the family, and probably would have kissed them all if I would have let him. I'm not normally a huge fan of petting zoos, but this picture was definitely worth it!

Owen by the deer, not quite as smitten as Colt

Next up was the elephant feeding. You can see one of the baby elephants in the middle of the picture - they were SO adorable

You can tell hot HOT it was that day by looking at Owen, he was ready to leave the elephants for some shade at this point

One of the highlights of the park is the safari tour. You ride on a tram and they take you through the hills to see all the different animals roaming around. Owen is busy checking out the animals here but as you can see Colton is always ready to smile for the camera

Checking out the giraffes from the tram

Owen kept asking what kind of rides they had at the park, so Josh finally took him up in this giant balloon that gives you a panaramic view of the park

Colt and I watched from the restaurant as Josh and Owen got ready to take off in the balloon (it stays tethered to the ground by a big cable the whole time)

This was feeding the lorikeets. Owen wouldn't hold the food but he still wanted the birds to jump on his arm, which they won't do unless you are holding the nectar.

Last up was the merry-go-round. Our little wild things had a great time and so did we!
